Funny things confiscated by customs

by Gamer

Hi all! I found this infographic on this site the other day and thought it’d be cool to share.

I can’t believe that drugs one. Makes you wonder the process that went into putting them and extracting them from.. where they were stored. Eww. Actually, there’s a picture of the fish-in-skirt here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/expat/expatpicturegalleries/8757426/Anything-to-declare-Bizarre-things-confiscated-at-Customs.html?image=11

Here are some more – let’s say I feel a lot less bad trying to bring my copic markers in my hand luggage! Some of these are postal customs, but hey – how could I resist?

  • A stuffed Armadillo dressed as a cowboy. Why would I lie about this? Where: Texas to Australia
  • Snakes on a plane. Not even lying – a man was caught trying to smuggle 4 snakes in his luggage. Here’s the image from the scanner. Where: Sydney Airport
  • A monkey head. Lovely. There’s not a picture but there is More at the Telegraph website. I’ve heard similar stories of people trying to carry on bleeding luggage of animals they’d hunted on holiday… Where: Munich
  • A Baby Tiger! He was hidden in among some stuffed animals. Poor guy. Where: Thailand to Iran
  • I’ve had my bag searched a few times – it’s always daft things that set the scanner off – Eater Eggs and gifts from Disney Land Paris to name a few. It’s slightly embarrassing, but I can’t imagine why anyone would try to smuggle stuff like this through airport security. However, compared to the UK and US – a lot of countries have pretty lax security, so they wouldn’t notice if you brought your one bottle of wine with you!

Any customs to declare – I’d love to hear your stories!
